Frequently Asked Questions

Botulinum Toxin

1. Is botulinum toxin safe?

A. Botulinum toxin has been used for over a decade and has an excellent safety record. Please see educational page for further information.

2. Are there any side effects?

A. Some people might be allergic to the constituents of the toxin product. In addition  some local side side effects like bruising etc. might occur. The neuromuscular side effects and their management shall be discussed in great detail at the course.

3. Do I need indemnity?

A. Indemnity is an important issue with any health related practice. One should check with one's professional  carrier and arrange cover if not covered already.

4. Is the training done on real people?

A. The hands on training is done on real people as a supervised educational activity.

5. What are the costs associated with setting up a practice?

A. Our courses are offered as an educational activity but we may be able to help you with some helpful information in this regard.

6. Should I attend a combined botox and dermal fillers course offered elsewhere?

A. Botox and dermal fillers are completelty different skills and have different clinical attributes. Both skill sets should be learned slowly and on their own. In our experience, people who have been on combined courses elsewhere, have ended up confused and not learnt anything either about botox or dermal fillers. These commercially run courses pack too much in one short course and charge a lot. We get a lot of practitioners on our courses who have earlier been on these combined courses and as a result learnt virtually nothing. So a word of caution there. We do not run combined courses and have no intention of doing so. We will give you honest, academic, evidence based training and your tutor is a senior Consultant Surgeon.

7. Can nurses obtain and inject botulinum toxin?

A. Extended nurse prescribers can prescribe nearly all prescription only drugs including botulinum toxin.  There are extensive guide lines from the department of Health on their website about nurses injecting botulinum toxin for cosmetic purposes. They are too lengthy for inclusion here. We suggest that you read these guidelines and adapt your practice accordingly. Please click on this link:        http://www.dh.gov.uk/cosmeticsurgery
